Wednesday Night League Rules

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your game starts

  • There is a 10 minute grace period. If a team is not present after 10 minutes from start time the game is a forfeit

  • You may play with 3 players but one player must be a female

  • There must be at least 2 people from your team roster unless approved by opponent

  • Matches are played best of 3 sets

  • Rock, paper, scissors for serve or side

  • Games are played to 21 points and the set must win by at least 2 points

  • The third game is first team to 15 points; win by at least 2 points

  • On the third game, switch sides at 8 points

  • A player must never block a serve

  • You can never open hand to receive a serve. Closed hands….Unless it’s a hard driven hit

  • A hard hit is a ball with a full swing and very little arc

  • A block is not counted as a hit

  • You may push the ball over the net only if your shoulders are square to the net

  • No open hand tipping or directing the ball. You must clearly knuckle or clearly use the palm of hand or it is a fault

  • You do not need to rotate players around the court

  • A player cannot touch the net or it is a fault

  • Incidental contact with hair in the net is not a fault

  • Each team is allowed a 30 second time out during each set which must be called before the serve

  • Serve – After contact with the ball, the server may step into the court

  • Jump serves are allowed

  • The ball may touch any body part

  • Games are played through windy, cloudy, light rain conditions. If the courts are too wet to play on or it’s severely raining games maybe cancelled. I will send out an email 2 hours prior to 7PM for any game cancellations.

  • Each team is required to referee 2-3 games per season however, please call your own violations if it is not seen by the ref.

  • You must wear shoes/ sandals and a shirt to go into the bar or use the restroom

 

If there are multiple opposing opinions about a play, we highly encourage to replay the serve
